11 Movie Reviews

It makes me look like an amateur reviewer....

to give so many 10s, but you deserve every one of them.

I cannot praise your use of camerawork enough. POV shots, overcorrected whip-pans, focus blurs, track shots, CUs, insets... It feels like a cinematographer was used rather than animating software. Just as Citizen Kane and Chinatown set benchmarks which all other cinematography is measured, Fallen Angel set the benchmark for telling a story through the medium of Flash animation.

And speaking of story, I can't help but acknowledge the Kill Bill-inspired montage. The dreary, tremolo-laden opening music playing over a backdrop of a rundown building in the middle of nowhere. And like The Bride, this blonde heroine finds herself outnumbered and outgunned. Also like The Bride, she kicks the shit out of all of them.

I, like everyone else, can't wait to see the entire movie. But even if you were to quit now, you would still be ahead by a longshot.

Why We Exist

The reason why we exist is not, as you hypothesized, hope. The reason why we exist is by our endless drive to produce offspring to continue our species. It is that hardwiring in our brains that produces all emotions, either directly or indirectly, through relationships and our pursuit for a higher standing in society which in theory leads to a better mate which produces better offspring.

As for free will, it doesn't make a difference to us whether or not everything has been predetermined or not because we are no clairvoyants. It would take an omniscient being that exists outside of time to interact with humanity at the dialogue level to let us know if we have free will.

And my thoughts about the origins of existence are as followed: yes, everything was a result of the big bang which was probably created by a chemical chain reaction. We are the product of billions of years of natural selection, producing the best of nature that we have ever seen thus far. But with the billions of solar systems in our galaxy alone, and with our greater understanding of the resilience of life, it is a safe bet that earth does not contain the only life. It is based on that hypothesis that makes me feel that we are less of an accident than previous thought.

You're My Hero

If you ever get the chance to do another one of these, you have to do the scene from the Clerks movie where the woman asks Randal about the two videos and he launches into that ruse speech. That is the funniest thing ever.

Great work on the drawings, it looks just like the comic/cartoon. Great lipsynching. You did such a kickass job. Kevin Smith would be proud.

SpaceMonkeyMafia responds:

I love you. :)
Oh, and I actually was going to do that scene instead of this one. Freaky. Still debating on if I should do that one in color.

I Was So Ready To Vote 0

Usually "tributes" are nothing more than pieces of crap because people can't draw themselves. This, on the other hand, is actually pretty funny. Good work.

P.S. The music is actually by "Daft Punk" not "Draft Punk")

The Storyline Sucked...

but the rest of it was damn good. You get a bonus point for putting in Mr. Crowley. Best clock crew submission i've seen yet.

F8L responds:

The story line is saddened to hear you speak ill of it.. although the rest of the movie is over joyed! Thank you!

I don't understand

All of the clocks hate Ki1o and yet they make tons of movies about him (most of them not really making fun of him). He probably likes the notoriety.

Anyways, this movie was pretty interesting.

That Isn't Very Fair...

For the longest time I couldn't understand how or why there was a clock crew, but now I understand. Everyone in the crew votes other crew members extremely high thus, circumventing the integrity of the portal. This movie was nothing more than your way of asking to be "allowed" into the clock crew. The art was alright and the sound matched the subtitles. Other than that, this movie doesn't seem to have any other positive qualities, and it is certainly not enough to be on the Top 20 of the week.

I am not trying to bust your balls, but the reviewer before me made me realize that this is getting out of hand. Have your clock crew, but please vote honestly. Don't just write "Go clocks Go clocks" a million times and vote 10.

ClearClock responds:

So, you, who posts stolen flash games (yes, stolen; if you cut-and-paste ActionScript, that is intellectual theft) are telling me that my movie does not deserve to be in the Top 20. Suck my clit.

Pretty Good...

...but you left out Chrono from Chrono Trigger and Simon Belmont from Castlevania.

As for the movie itself, it is an original idea and it was produced pretty well. Good job.

I like!

Just when I was thinking to myself, "He really should have added some voices from the game to his movie", you added some voices!

And thank you for listing what software you used, I must now go scour the internet looking for swift 3d...

Here Is My Two Cents

You are obviously a great computer artist and you obviously know your shit when it comes to programming (good thinking with the preloader in the middle). My biggest problem with the movie is that it doesn't feel like a movie. It feels like a bunch of stillshots with very minor movement at any given time. I understand that you have an anime feel to your movie and anime uses that technique alot (mostly to keep costs down), but you need have at least a little more than what is currently in the movie.

One more thing I would suggest is to add more dramtic action effects to your movie. Speed up the action really quickly and then slow it down to almost still shots. When the Vampire Hunter drops the gun, have it drop quickly and make it rotate as it falls. Little things like that make all the different when trying to convey emotion through movies. Other than those little things, you have a great movie on your hands.

ImageNation responds:

hey... thats actually a good idea with the gun... hum thanks give us something to think about for the next cartoons. We really wanted to do something with that sceen but we like anime our on a buget not cost but MB while this cartoon was about 6 minutes or more we hope the rest will be about 3 giveing us more freedom to do what we want. as for great.. not really we're just starting out and learning. thanks for the review.
